Ashenrocks usually don't see gods as anything other than philosophical discussions and things to be expressed in art.
An ashenrocks most notable feature is their head, made of a thick fire-like element, with a single large eye at the front of its core. This fire cannot be put out by water or wind. It "waves" instead of behaving like regular fire. They have a long tail, tipped with the same fire as their head.
Ashenrocks fire colors can be anything, from pure black to every color in the rainbow. The core that this fire comes from is one solid color.
Their body is a dull color, covered in stony skin. It is not uncommon to see one who's painted their body. The general body type of an ashenrock remains the same as their previous species. Their former species can also affect their habits and influence their instincts, such as walking on all four limbs or wearing clothes.
Ashenrocks shed ash from their skin, with ones who rest at hotter temperatures shedding more on average than those at cooler temperatures. This ash is colorful before it dies out within a week and becomes a dark grey.
Ashenrocks are quiet and tend to stick around peaceful areas. Most who meet them describe them as "anxious" and "extremely strange". Ashenrocks have an affection for abstract creativity and steer away from straightforward depictions of reality, which can make it frustrating to get information from them if one isn't patient or doesn't understand their "flow". It is extremely common for an ashenrock to label themself as an artist, and run art galleries and shows.
A major part of their culture is the celebration of loss, instead of mourning it. They will try to remember everything good that happened with something they lost. This is said, by many ashenrocks, to be because they want to cope with how they were created.
When another species becomes covered in the ash an ashenrock sheds, they start to undergo what they have labelled a conversion. The person becomes immobile, and soon the ash covering them ignites, causing them to transform underneath the flame. On average conversions last three days before the flame dies out and leaves a new ashenrock, with no coherent recollection of their past life. Being forced to remember large portions of their personal past before conversion can cause a very sudden and painful death.
Ashenrocks have only one clearly recorded event, their Great Turning. Their planet wasn't always all deserts, and was in fact a great forest. A storm caused fires all over the planet, burning every tree down until it was nothing but ash. Any creatures who survived the initial fire eventually died out, except for one species who were forced to thrive above ground, which all turned into what the ashenrocks are now.
Many of them, especially those who live on their home planet, deeply miss their forests as a missing part of them.
The ashenrock's home planet is covered in deserts of ash. It is heavily advised to not step outside without full-body protective gear, as many sandstorms occur.
None / Unknown.
Heat Adjust: Ashenrocks can change how hot or cold their flame is, within a limit of what their body can handle. This can also affect their body temperature, which can help them survive hot and cold planets.
• Most ashenrocks disapprove of converting other species, but some are so deep into the love of loss that they want to share it, forcefully.
• Their ash can be turned into a decent fertilizer, which is often used to help their crops grow.
