Common Jobs: Bodypart
Likes: Their host, Food, Safety
Dislikes: Sudden loud noises / movements, Impulsiveness
Attack Method: They attack with their bladed tendrils, slashing and stabbing in a quick whirlwind.
As larvae they are a tiny grub smaller than the tip of one's finger, pale pink and fleshy in appearance with six segmented legs and two thin folds of skin which it can stretch out to glide to its target. Further up is the head, which holds no eyes and is in fact a drill for burrowing into their host. This drill head has a mouth filled with sharp teeth which they use to eat away at the area of the host they have burrowed into.
A saiyli larvae will glide until it lands on a person or fauna and begin to burrow under the skin using their drill head and will try to make their way to their destination in the body. They deploy a powerful numbing agent as they do this, and continue to administer the numbing agent as they metamorphosis and replace the area they arrive at.
Due to this numbing agent and the minuscule size of the larvae many hosts remain unaware of the process until it the size of the change is visible.
In stage two of the saiyli life cycle they have completely eaten away the area of the host they have burrowed into and gone through a metamorphosis to replace it. The appearance of the saiyli in this stage heavily depends on the area they have replaced, with limbs such as arms being the most common target of the saiyli as they will attempt to replicate this area with itself. A sayli will grow a chitinous or calcified exoskeleton over itself once fully integrated with the host but will often replace this with other hardened materials such as bone or very occasionally rocks. A sayli which has heavily integrated armor into itself will look more akin to a sleek prosthetic than a living thing.
This armor is always segmented so as to allow the saiyli to open up, within is often the mouth and any sensory organs as well are five or six long fleshy tendrils attached to often curved blades which it uses to protect itself and its host.
The saiyli are pragmatic and logical, often prioritizing their host's well-being over any others. They're often looking out for anything out of place or strange so as their host knows what to avoid or that they are at least ready and are always quick to give advice based off observations and knowledge. They don't often lower their guard, if ever.
They're easy to scare, and quick to get defensive. Often warning their hosts of things at first perceived of threats, when in actuality it was simply something quite harmless. For example,if one were to throw something towards their host to catch without warning the sayli may end up lashing out at it.
Interestingly enough despite this they do seem to have an unnatural sense of encroaching actual danger before it presents itself.
That being said due to their heavy integration with their host their personality does somewhat depend on them. In fact sayli more often than not consider themselves the same individual of their host, and if not then an extension of them and present themselves as such, rarely if ever having a sense of individualism and would prefer to be referred to as such. While they wouldn't object to being given a name, saiyli are perfectly content to remain thought of as part of the host. If one was asked for a name however it is guaranteed to as uncreative a name as possible, likely being simply the area they have replaced.
The origin of the saiyli is unknown, with them having simply appeared one day, upon a traveler waking up and noticing their arm had been entirely replaced. Due to their reserved nature it had been assumed for quite a while they were unintelligent, up until one actually began communicating with the researchers. It is currently believed the saiyli made their way into space when some larvae accidentally hitched a ride on an adventurer's ship after exploring an unknown planet.
Further tests to measure, sentience, intelligence, and sapience were brought underway to gauge the extent of these traits in the beings. With it eventually being concluded that the saiyli, are indeed truly sapient.
Raiyzli: A form of the sayli which replaces not just a single part, but the entire individual. This subspecies forms their exoskeleton from almost exclusively chitinous or calcium rich materials and at first resemble the original individual, albeit a grotesque and warped version of them. This subspecies is illegal due to their lifecycle ending their host.
Kamozli: Unlike its other counterparts this subspecies this subspecies does not armor itself at all, simply being much more flexible due to a lack of exoskeleton and instead being entirely made up of rubbery flesh. The kamozli replicates the original part with a surprising accuracy. One can have a kamozli and not even realize it without a closer inspection. This subspecies is considered more parasitic however as it does not protect the host and also does not contribute much else, profiting off the nutrients from the body with very little in return other than a more flexible body part.
Living Prosthetic: The saiyli replaces a part of the host's body, becoming a functioning replacement for it and essentially becoming a part of the hosts body in the process.
• The larvae's process is not perfect and sometimes, things like landing in certain areas of the body or a host with a symbiote already can cause deadly errors with its creation
• All saiyli larvae are of the same variety, and thus it is unknown what triggers the change into a subspecies during their metamorphosis phase.
• Saiyli are sometimes used in medical practices, such as having one attach to a host with a hyperactive immune system as the saiyli are capable of suppressing this in order to avoid destruction by their host's body.
