Physical Description
Xikis appearances vary wildly, but there are a few common traits every xiki has. The traits that all xikis possess include: a tail, incredibly wide eyes, rib bones that stick out, spikes on their head, slimy skin, and four to five bioluminescent shapes on their stomach.
Xikis can come in many colors, and have many types of patterns. A xiki's eyes, tail, spikes, even nose, can vary in shape and size. This can lead to some less intuitive aliens mistaking xikis for a different species.
A xiki's skin produces a mucus that protects them from infections and small insects. This mucus can quickly harden in hot areas, leading to the xiki becoming stiff. Xikis usually carry water when outside of their planet because of this.
A xiki's organs each have different shapes and colors to them. It is thought that the shape and color of an organ relates to a trait a xiki has.
Xiki babies are small, round, and quadrupedal. They have no visible traits or lights. All baby xikis are a brownish grey. They will start growing at 8 months and will be fully grown by age 2.
Personality
Most xikis are playing a game, a game of genetics and statistics. In this game, two or more xikis will see who can get the closest to a specific set of genes in a set number of generations. Xikis take this game very seriously, sabotaging and sometimes even killng each other over it.
Xikis are a incredibly competitive species when it comes to most things. Xikis have very large but fragile egos, losing at even a little game will make them incredibly upset. Xikis also enjoy doing complex work and will refuse to do it if they don't find it complex enough. A xiki will complicate their lives, attaching numbers and statistics to things that don't need it. A xiki will insist that their way is the best way and will belittle others around them.
In Xiki society, culture, genetics, and statistics are very intertwined with each other. Xikis who work as farmers or have anything to do with living things are very serious about their cattle and crops having the right genes. Most things sold on the planet have a genetics pun attached to it. Many jobs on their planet has to do with statistics, even jobs that usually do not involve such things. Even things like sports have complicated numbers and rules to them.
History
Xikis were simple creatures. All xikis looked almost exactly like how their young look today; the main difference, was a huge light in the middle of their stomach. They used this light to lure prey to them. They lived in the mud, eating bugs and laying around, until a huge super volcano on their planet erupted. To escape, the xikis burrowed deep into the dirt.
They emerged from the ground, surrounded by a desolate planet, almost all other life forms had died. It seemed that xikis were going to follow suit, but they had an idea. They would pick the best mates to have kids with for the future of their species. They would pick the xiki with the biggest light to have children with as they believed they had the best traits. Then two lights were mutated and favored, and then three, up until xikis had the idea that lights related to what traits they had.
The Republic of Freelin was established thousands of years later. Xiki technology had advanced exponentially ever since they finally reached space only 200 years before, xiki existence had been relatively peaceful, no major wars or skirmishes. With the rise of the republic, the reworking of picking out genes into the game rose too.
Home Planet
Freelin is a mostly tropical planet, covered in lush and colorful flora and fauna. There are a few inactive volcanos around the planet. There are no oceans in Freelin, only lakes and rivers. There are smaller xiki towns around the planet with the capital in the middle of it all.
Subspecies
Rouki: Xikis that have not become bipedal and look like a normal xiki baby. These xiki's life spans are much longer. They have the same opportunities as any other xiki, although they are constantly bullied. Roukis are much more laid back than most xikis.

Trivia
• Xiki's main export is fertilizer and their glowing organs. These come from xiki corpses, as xikis do not burry their dead. Xiki's are very open about the origin of their products.
• The ground of xiki cities are covered in mud. This is to keep xiki's skin moist, as most materials used for roads and such soak up heat, and would dry a xiki up.
