Hmmm, I'm not sure how bad of an idea would it be if we take the Mercury ship, but used The Ole Switcheroo to have a different AI controlling it. Mercury seems like the type of person to get agressive about that.
You may have to worry about him getting angry about it once he notices his ship is gone.
