Cekeki are an extremely common breed of shrimp found in the universe. With an average length of one foot long, onlookers are dazzled by their collectable coloring, which is different from planet to planet! Once believed to be anomalies, it turns out that cekeki don't summon anomalies, but instead anomalies are attracted to cekeki. The reason for this is currently still being studied.

Most planets ban the sale of cekeki to anomalous species. While viewing a cekeki for a short amount of time is a delightful experience, long term viewing causes an anomaly to enter into an addicted state. They will become unable to survive for more than a few hours without seeing a live cekeki. Their minds will become infected by their patterns, often causing them to draw them in an attempt to relive the stress of not seeing their cekeki.

If cekeki are removed from an anomaly, the anomaly will become violent as they begin to enter a withdrawal-like state.

......but, the cekeki people watch work in offices or use as toys, are not quite the same as these naturally occurring creatures.

These "holy intern" cekeki on the other hand, are anomalous. Believed to be a creature of the Creator, these cekeki are sometimes called "peeled cekeki" due to lacking the armor their normal forms have.

These cekeki are devoted to work and energy. Considered holy batteries, if they do not get enough anomalous material they will shrink in size. As such, many are considered workaholics, almost mindless in their devotion.

To create a holy intern is simple. One needs only a machine and a Zookeeper.

Who the Zookeeper is, and what the machine looks like, does not matter, but only one Zookeeper and machine can exist at a time.

The machine offers comfort, happiness, freedom, anything the consumer wants, all just for money.

And when the consumer runs out of money, it asks for art.

And when the artist becomes too dedicated to the machine, the machine offers them an opportunity of a lifetime. A promotion.

Cekeki are people who fully committed. They had to have it. They needed it, they have become what they always wanted. By letting the machine take their bodies, they have been reborn into a new form. Those who become a holy intern are awaiting enlightenment from their god above. Once enlightenment has been obtained, they will rise to join their god.

Holy interns still have most of their mind intact but they can never be "restored" to their original state. Their god will steal them away once they gain enough power from anomalous materials, often from the very same metal the machine gives them as payment.

But should they lose it all, they shrink in size and power, until their mind finally leaves them.

These poor cekekis, are known as toy cekekis. The person that existed once, is gone. These cekekis will never recover from their loss of power. They become scared to move, for every movement brings them closer to losing what little power they have and disappearing into nothingness.

Terrified, these poor creatures absorb background anomalous forces, enough of them in an area being able to completely disable an anomalous effect. They are considered "high value objects" and are picked up, painted, and sold as decorative pets. While uncomfortable to think about this "corpse" being traded and sold they are no more person than a machine whose only goal is to survive.
