Bombs shook his submarine. He may have escaped for the moment, but he couldn't hold on for much longer. As he watched the waters above tint with a sickly red he could only shout. "A man works his entire life at a goal, and those with more power bully him! Kick him into the dirt and destroy all that he has!"

The lights flicker as Naut's own malfunctioning body zaps the controls. "For what reason do they have to kill these innocent creatures? Who only look at them as a source of food and love!"

"Are we not meant to be their "greaters?" The adults who watch over these children? And we do not even kill them for food, but because they exist in the way to our goals!"

Cazkade does not respond to Naut. "Artifact up ahead. Hope you're ready for this."

Naut sobers up for a moment. "Why are you killing yourself for a machine to live?"

"I believe you said it yourself. A man works his entire life at a goal, and someone destroys all that he has."

"What, your mech? You've only been working a few weeks on it, sailor! You could have started over. You truly will kill yourself over such a small timeframe?"

"Could say the same thing for you, Captain. A machine like you could live till the end of time if given enough repairs. Maybe all the work you've done now is destroyed, but you could have just picked it back up." Cazkade shrugs.

"But it doesn't matter how much time you have ahead of you when you think about how much time you've lost. You just want to start over, but all that time has passed and there's no going back. You can live a hundred times longer and still have those regrets, captain."

"Sailor....I do not believe that your few weeks of work are worth the years that now tint the ocean red!"

"Yet again, Captain, you have to see it from my point of view. Everything I have worked for to this point is gone. Isn't that the lowest a person could get?"

As the ship gets closer to the artifact it endlessly blares a warning.

"You're an idiot, you know that, right?"

Cazkade presses the submarine to go full speed. "Happy to have contributed something to this universe. Sad that you will sink to the bottom of the sea like the other. Hope I come back as something a bit more pleasant next time."

Captain Naut could still think, and for that, he was still glad. He could remember his crew, the events that led him down this path. He was finally free from that horrible world. From a universe that wishes for the destruction of everyone in it. Where men fought to come out on top, for no reason other than to say they could. Society was doomed, and now he was with the people who actually cared for him. Beasts.

Captain Naut saw something in the distance. Originally he assumed it to be a bomb, but after darting, he noticed it was his beloved Pierre. He felt a great joy in his heart. Pierre must have followed his body down, and watched him transform. He thought his beloved son had been killed in the bombing. This was going to be the start of something new. As a fish, he could train the animals of the sea to protect themselves. Fight back against the horrors from above and stay away from danger. He calls out in excitement to his friend Pierre.

It is only in this moment that Naut realized that when he fell beneath the waves as a robot, the event that made him love the animals of the world hid a horrible truth he had never considered......that the animals had only wanted to eat him.

Every action they took was just an attempt to get food out of him, or frustration that he could not provide them food. It was not play, or an attempt to save him as he drowned.
