[The Heart of the Woods – Roadwarden]
Unnamed Child
The unnamed child sent another party out with a list. Today intended to make a spell that stops backaches, and it required the toughen skin of a jailury. She had made a list of directions to places she had spotted them in the forest. It had to be a wild one. The potion required it to be "untamed with no master".

That, and any Drakken would kill her over taking a slice of their pet. As someone in the group stared at the list of locations they announced it out loud, so that the others may assist them with picking a direction.


  1. Ruined temple reeeeeeeeally far from here. Long walk!

  2. Fey waterfall. Never come here just after dawn ends, that's what the ladies told me!

  3. That weird place with all the broken buildings around it.

  4. Seeeeecret Federation base but they suck at hiding it. Idiots.

Sal looks at the list, tilting his head. "...Well...the 'weird place' and the waterfall appear to be locations that won't easily kill us...right..."

"Oh, yeah! They sound much more pleasant than what I chose last time!"

"The waterfall sounds very nice, we'd just have to watch the time!"

"Hmmm..."

He's thinking about it. So much could happen in the span of an hour, and so much could happen if they aren't careful. The last time had a few hiccups (not that he minds, of course). "I do want to explore some ruins..." He says. "And as the Tailed says, the temple sparks curiosity..."

"You people understand! Let us be off!" He tells his mushbird, Kinglet, to sing along. The duo make a wonderful duo!
The group attempt the long walk. Thankfully the music keeps them in good spirits.
The group rolls a 20 sided die with a modifier of +5. An 11 is rolled.
Even as the group grows tired, and they believe they are ready fall, Cúno's tunes and the songs from his pet mushbird lead them on. For hours to trekked until they reached the temple.

One might expect it from a "former" traveller, Cúno the Fool seems more envigorated than anything. "How wonderful is this! Such little trouble! Perhaps the fauna of this planet really are just like Wockle's..." He is frolicking about joyously... Jumping on any nearby rocks or fallen trees as they pass... It is amazing how he hasn't fallen from exhaustion yet.

Ah, the spirit of youth. Flower Trove sighs, and straightens up to get a better look at their surroundings.

The temple is a tattered thing. The forest has nearly overtaken it. As the group climb its first few steps they hear a growl. A protector of the temple, long forgotten lifts a claw ever so slowly, hoping that this alone would scare the group.

A vampwelf hears the approaching group and sticks his head out of the temple. "Aye lads! Don't mind the brute. She's all glares and no fangs! You can walk up safely!"

He trails behind Joshua, almost awkwardly, letting him do the talking. "Skin from a wild jailury..." He adds.

A fey, followed by many others picks at the ruins. They all seem to be digging for stones. They look to the group, but the fey of Growth waves at the others, calming them.

"Ah, we'll try to be as gentle as possible! I do not enjoy seeing animals be harmed either." Joshua isn't looking at Lumii as he speaks, instead focusing on the feys.

"It - it would be a terrible thing to kill a jailury just for its skin..." With the whirlwind of words that had just left that vampwelf's mouth, he did not know how to feel!

"I's only an animalm. Let us cut it." Flower Trove states bluntly. "Unless it be a holy guardian, bu' I am doubtful. This temple is long empty of all wornship an' tribue."

Sal turns towards the feys. Ooh. Nice creatures. He does want one to come with him, but...

"Hmm...the jailury doesn't have to be dead, no? But it would be terrible to take its skin while alive...sounds like torture..."

Right, he doesn't want his friend to stress out too much over dead animals. Sal turns to Lumii again. "How much do you know about these...feys? They seem to enjoy your company quite a bit..."

Lumii starts rambling to himself, ignoring the question. "Anyway....after seeing all those animals I killed, I got into the whole science thing, and turns out, that's a taboo as well. Taboo this, taboo that! Everything is a taboo in the house!"

"I wasn't even trying to bring the dead back to life, it was more like uuuh.....making a robot out of meat!"

I believe it is simply that people believe such silly rumors of the fey, that the rumors come true! If you go into the woods expecting feys to attack you because you are a married man, then you'll attack all us poor feys on sight!"

The old shepherd was content not to question the fey, as though they were strange, he could fit them with what he knew. But before they left, there was one more thing he wished to know from the vampwelf.

"Vammwelf. Do you know this temple's past? Who did the people of this land once pray to? And why di'they stop?"

Lumii gathers his papers. "This temple is not vampwelf in nature. It's from a species that ruled before them. The svlanoi. I wished to know about their history, for I feel as if something is wrong. After all, history is written by the victors. Did they really die so suddenly as vampwelfs say they did? And where did vampwelfs come from? It feels as if we had appeared one night in a swarm and took the lands from what the legends say."

"The thing I wish to know the most about, is the queenzabeth. I own one myself. I consider it a bit of my adopted son." Lumii mumbles something about how Comet doesn't like his son very much as he pulls out the small queenzabeth.

The creature trills happily.

"Vampwelf history will tell you that the queenzabeth is a recent creation, but it is not! These beloved beasts were the pets of svlanoii! They were found in castles, and dining halls, and their bodies can even be found in svlanoi gravesites!"

The fey's tone turns grime as Sal grabs their sleeved hand. They look into Sal's eyes. "Do not go back into the woods. If you do, you will meet a horrible fate, you understand? I will leave. It is not like I do not know where this place is now."
