Physical Description

Shadow parrots are approximately person sized, and the exact ranges vary depending on the dominant species of the planet's population. They're known to have no genetic markers that cause this, and as such the ability to look like the facsimile of a person is believed to be part of their life cycle. The karaden almost always has a "face", although it may have facial features distorted, mis-matched, or missing altogether. The rest of their body looks like the obscured outline of a person in the distance, but this does not change when the distance is closed.

Karaden are rumored to be an anomaly due to their seemingly chaotic behavior, and other factors. For instance even if one is extremely weak they could easily pick up a karaden as easily as the strongest person alive. Picking up two karaden is twice as hard for everyone. Picking up more than four is impossible unless done via letting them stand in the back of a truck, until one attempts to pick up the truck. Karaden cannot be killed by submerging them in magma or frigid water, as they are always the same temperature as the ambient environment even after death.

Behavior

While the life-cycle of a karaden is not fully documented, and this article should be regarded as incomplete what is known about the karaden could be used for extensive debate in an academic setting. The first noteworthy thing about their behavior is that the karaden does not seem to have any form of malice that they are capable of exhibiting, as even when they have "hunted" or commit cannibalism they parrot their sing-song phrases while eating.

This animal will follow people who ask them to follow, or those who have never even paid attention to it. Sometimes they stop following for no reason, and sometimes they resume following a year later. The karaden are mercurial, and will not act even when they watch their own kind be slaughtered, or when they themselves are at risk of death

Subspecies

None / Unknown.

Special

Parroting: Shadow parrots are known for their ability to mimic phrases they've heard. While studies show that the animal doesn't exactly understand what the phrases mean it is intelligent enough to understand how voices, intonation, and accents work. Many stories exist about hearing someone singing a pop song from around a corner only to find a karaden, or even waking up to hear someone begging for help at their front door.

Trivia

• People have tried to breed karaden as capture creatures, but there are two major obstacles to overcome for that to ever be feasible. The first is that the karaden is almost completely unreactive to all forms of mutagen, as injections of evofluid or heavy exposure to mutagenic materials results in either the individual animal changing color slightly, or melting to death. The second issue is the lack of anything resembling loyalty as found in their behavior section.

• Despite everything the karaden has been seen across the universe ranging from dark forests to the skeleton crews of grocery stores.

• Horrible accidents have happened because someone tried to pick up a box of live karaden by accident. Do not try this no matter what. Despite this fact this is a common method karaden farmers use to slaughter them, and their meat has been known to taste "a bit like chicken?"
