It was late in the evening, you had sat down to unwind when the next show started... Something about cold cases- Your blood ran cold when you had seen the victim's face– One you had seen years and years ago. They were from a case you had worked on- Despite all you and your team did, it wasn't enough... You couldn't even identify the person let alone who killed them- Their case went as cold as their body in the morgue.

For all you know- That person had a family... People who cared about them, aspirations and all of that were cut short- And nobody knew who they were... No farewells from their loved ones, no justice brought to the murderer... Just nothing but wasted work–

The memories stuck to you like glue, the guilt over giving up on them- On bringing other cases like theirs to light- to a conclusion... You've abandoned them, and now their ghost sits at the foot of your bed- Silent yet overbearing... You could only apologize so much to those cold dead eyes before "sorry" loses all meaning other than a meager plead for mercy... for freedom...
