Physical Description
A zeberbil appear to be a cute gerbil with black and white stripes, large buckteeth, and hooves where the front paws should be. It's innocent appearance is not to be underestimated however as it can open its maw up to a ludicrous size and swallow almost any individual in an instant. Once the zeberbil's mouth chomps down on its victim, the victim is theorized to be near instantly disintegrated inside of the zeberbil's mouth by a rapid acidic spray. This theory haven't been disproven however, as all the instruments that enters a zerberbil's mouth have yet to gather data before being completely wiped out by whatever the zerberbil's mouth does.
Behavior
Zeberbils are docile creatures and most will never use their fearsome power to hurt someone they know to be a friend. However, if something ever threatens a zerberbil, the zerberbil will consume it with no hesitation.
Even the slightest provocations such as walking too loudly can cause it to try and consume you. Since zerberbils are social creatures fond of making their dens hidden and are easily stepped-on, it's not rare to see a large swathe of grassy land littered with the unsuspecting dens of "living land mines". Strangely enough, these land mines aren't actually that harmful if you happen to be some sort of writer. All the harm that can come to a writer walking through the dens is the emotion of guilt towards ruining the zerberbils' homes and the compulsion to write about said guilt.
Subspecies
Uni-Zeberbil: This zerberbil is either completely black or white with flowing hair and a tiny thorn-like stump on its head. Other than that, these zerberbil aren't actually any different from regular zerberbil though it is believed that the foot of one will grant you speed in your travels.
Special
Instant Disintegration: Whatever a zeberbil does with its mouth, it can safely get rid of nearly anything with no harm to the creature. Even radioactive wastes and mutagens won't faze it. However, this only applies to eating and not in-taking the substances through other means such as injection.
Trivia
• People who are savvy with animals usually use these creatures as their own personal trashcan.
• The traveling sideshow, Genni and Lorg, feature two zerberbils named Genni and Lorg that can do many wondrous feats with their mouths including spitting people across the stage and hiding away other less important zerberbils before opening their jaws to a carefully-coordinated zerberbil pyramid.
• Zerberbil mouths aren't able to do anything while open. Thus, if the reflexes of the victim are fast enough, they might be able to prop open a zerberbil's mouth and jump out. If this succeeds, the zerberbil will not attempt to try and swallow it's victim again and will instead choose to run away.
